Electric furnaces were dispatched to ALROSA

In September 2015 Joint Stock Company “Research and Development Enterprise “Mashprom” supplied two drum-type electric furnaces of СБО 5.27/5 model to ALROSA (Mirny, Russia).

Electric furnaces were produced at Mashprom’s production area in Nizhniy Tagil (OJSC NTMZ).

The furnaces were packed in specially designed wooden cases that ensured extra protection of the cargo from moisture. All the requirements for transportation of the cargos to the Far North were observed.

The electric furnaces were designed in 3D modelling software with the use of thermal and strength analysis. Based on the results of strength calculations it was decided to increase the durability of support rims and in this regard to manufacture the rims from wear-resistant steel Hardox 450.

During testing the operation of newly installed drum rotation monitoring sensor was checked. In a simulated event of drum’s stoppage the rotation sensor sent out an emergency signal.

The drum was rolled from solid steel sheet (steel grade Cr18Ni10Ti) without any additional welding seams. Laser cutting tool and CNC sheet bending machine (without any mechanical works or laying out) were used in the manufacture of furnace casing. The information necessary for fabrication of sheet parts was uploaded to laser cutter and to sheet bending machine from digital model of the furnace. Consequently, it was not necessary to prepare detail drawings that allowed to reduce design costs.

Heaters were made from wire of Kanthal AF alloy and were formed into zigzags. Heaters were fastened over special built-in refractory hooks that were located on side walls and on the furnace bottom. Increased heater capacity of drying electric furnaces is needed for evaporation of large quantities of moisture from heated material. Supporting frames of electric furnaces were coated with corrosion-resistant coatings.
